Traffic tickets and speeding
A ticket handled without the day in court.
Speeding, seat belts, expired registration or a string of violations on one record: the firm works to reduce the charge and keep your license.
Chapter 01
A lesser charge, or a prayer for judgment continued
Most people who bring a ticket to the firm want to know what it will do to their record. Carl L. Britt, Jr., Attorney at Law, has practiced in Cumberland County since 1980, and the usual aim is to negotiate the offense down to a lesser charge or to obtain a prayer for judgment continued, which attorneys call a PJC.
That kind of result may mean no increase in your insurance premiums and fewer points on your license. Every ticket has its own facts, and no attorney can promise how a particular one will end, so the first step is a conversation about what you were cited for and where, so you know your options before you spend anything.

Handled by mail, without a day in court
Most cases can be handled without you being in court. With your written consent or waiver, the firm appears on your behalf, which saves you a day away from work, school or family and keeps you out of a crowded courtroom. For many drivers, that is the practical value of hiring an attorney for a ticket: the day that would have been lost stays yours.
If you decide to retain the firm without coming in first, the office can send you a waiver not to appear in court. You sign it, mail it back along with the fee, and the attorneys take it from there. Whether a waiver fits your ticket depends on the facts, so call and talk it through.
It costs nothing to talk with us. You only pay if you retain our services. Our fees are reasonable, and the attorney will be open and honest with you about what can be done with your case before you decide anything. You can also call the office first to make an appointment, and that first conversation is free.
Chapter 03
Keeping points and premiums from piling up
A traffic ticket looks minor, but it takes time from work and family, usually brings fines and court costs, and will almost always raise what you pay for insurance. Each conviction also puts valuable points against your license. Add a missed shift and an afternoon spent waiting to be called, and a ticket can cost far more than the fine printed on it.
The firm's most important goal is to prevent the loss of your driver's license. Violations piling up on one record are what put a license at risk, which is why it pays to deal with each ticket as it arrives instead of hoping it goes away. That is why the conversation is worth having early, before a second or third violation lands on the same record.
Drivers come to the office from Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Lumberton and Rockfish, and from across the surrounding area. The tickets are the familiar ones: speeding, failing to stop for pedestrians, skipping a turn signal, an expired license, registration or insurance, no seat belt, or driving alone in a carpool lane.
